Coca-Cola CSR Accountability Due to the vastly growing demand for organizational transparency, the formation of sustainability indices has assisted prospective investors by serving as educational tools and allowing them to confidently engage with companies who create a positive social and environmental impact. These indices, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), evaluate and measure some of the world’s most profitable companies’ based on criteria such as economic, social, and environmental efforts (ESG) (SP Dow Jones Indices, 2015). Additionally, the Global 100 is comprised of organizations who generate a minimum of two billion U.S. dollars per year and have been screened in four areas, including sustainability disclosure, F-score (financial), product category, and sanctions (Corporate Knights, 2015b). Consequently, Coca-Cola has been able to secure a spot on at least one index in the past two years due to their excellence in the criteria mentioned above. The Drinking Age For many reasons, the drinking age has been set at twenty-one years old, but has the time come to lower the drinking age? Many argue that the drinking age needs to be lowered back to eighteen for many reasons; however, studies and statistics show that lowering the drinking age is harmful and even deadly. Some people believe that binge drinking can be solved by lowering the drinking age, but lowering the drinking age is not the solution to binge drinking. Many teenagers spend their weekends partying and getting drunk anyway, so lowering the drinking age will not stop young people from drinking. In fact, lowering the drinking age will increase the number of binge drinkers. Maybe having the same drinking age in all fifty states was the solution to drun k driving, but preventing teenagers from binge drinking would not have been solved. Drinking makes people more prone to making dangerous, risk-taking behavior, so who is to say that young adults under the influence would not make the decision to get behind the wheel of a car (ProCon.org). Therefore, arguments saying that the drinking age should be eighteen for all fifty states in order to decrease drunk driving cannot be proven because people who have been drinking can still drink and drive. Jokes have been made about America’s new favorite pass time being binge drinking. Finding a party to drink at is no longer hard. The new question asked is â€Å"which party should I go to?† In fact, teenagers show the highest rate of binge drinkers. Studies show that there are more underage drinkers than legal drinkers. While having the drinking age at twenty-one does not do much for curving drinking on college campuses, because most people graduate at twenty-two, lowering the drinking age will not help stop binge drinking in college (Griggs). At theheight of his political power, Akbar ended the taxes on non-Muslims andpermitted Hindus to build new temples, creating religious tolerance. He also secured Hindu support by negotiating peace treaties. The system of government used by the Mughalswas very effcient in holding on to their power. Akbar divided hisempire into provinces and districts, giving local governors salaries insteadof land grants. This way if the officials were dependent on the centralgovernment for income, they would probably not rebel. Akbar set upan efficient tax collecting system and made an effort to ensure that itwas applied fairly. Later years however, when Akabars son and grandsonruled they increased taxes to support military campaigns. However, the Mughals decline set stagerapidly when Auranzeb took leadership. Religious intolerance wasat its height during Auranzebs rule. His policy caused tensionbetween Hindus and Muslims. Hindu rulers challenged Auranzeb, hereacted by reinstating a tax on non-muslims and destroying many Hindu temples. There was constant warfare which weakened the empire. Along withconstant warfare, corruption grew. The treasury was being drainedby corrupt officials. The empire had no money to support a strongmilitary, so they required heavy taxes. Which increased problemswith peasants. He tried to cut non-military expenses by dismissingartists, architects, and historians. By doing this the growth ofthe Mughal culture stopped. Many Indian states withdrew their supportor declared their independence. Auranzeb died in 1707 leavinghis decendants to rule a weakend empire.
